Default highway robbery!!!

well, the shop finally called yesterday. they told me that all they've done so far is clean the carbs and do a compression test (extremely low compression). if i want to pick it up today, it would be 170 dollars plus tax! when i was in new york, i had the carbs cleaned, oil and plug changed, battery replaced, and rear bearrings done for 250 dollars. they said just to tear the top end down and see for sure what's wrong with it, i was lookin at 400 dollars before parts and re-assembly! and all together, around 800 dollars for a new top end!!!! i told them they were nuts and im not paying that much for 150 bucks worth of parts. and they dont even know for sure what's wrong with it. im thinking it's a burnt valve. so im gonna get it back and take it down myself. somewhere that has a roof, hopefully.

Must be A dealer shop. Find a private owend shop, order the parts on line yourself, you will save A lot of money that way. Most dealer's are ripoff's for part's and labor.

Must've brought it to Coast Cycle World. I will never bring anything to that place again for repairs. You have a better chance of doing it yourself anyway.

actually, i took it to hattiesburg cycle because coast cycle world told me there was a five week waiting period to even look at it. i thought hattiesburg would be a little better, but they charge 85 dollars per hour for labor. i'll never deal with either of them again.

Yea, I had problems with warranty work from hattiesburg too. I ended up cancelling my extended warranty and walking out of there too. I took my money that I would've wasted on them and bought a Clymer manual and some tools and it gets fixed right the first time now.

well, i finally got it together. i sent the cylinder to a machine shop just down the road to have it punched out and cross hatched and get it nice again. i had a piston and ring set from dennis kirk sent right there so he could make sure and get the right clearence. yeah, they sent him a cracked piston. the skirt at first looked like it had a hair stuck to it. but it was a crack about an inch and a half long, vertical up the skirt. i was pretty p.o.'d. so i had to return that one and get them to exchange it. which this whole evolution took about a month and a half because of the buying and returning, and because of the slow mail service due to the hurricane. but she's all together now and i cant wait to take it out this weekend and do the break in.
