Great article!

The author went through every aspect of doing a "wheelie" the right way.

Default wheelies?

I bought a new wheelie grab bar that is made locally where I live. It is hell of a strong and indestructable. It has 2 small wheels on it. You can ride wheelies forever as it gives you the confidence to ride wheelies flat out or as slow as you want. Once you mastered wheeling, you can take it off. I leave it on, because it still looks trick. I'll take photos of it at some stage and post em.

Yea you give it gas, you gotta keep it in the low rpms or you wont make it too far cause you will run out'a gear...

josh i just wanna add your article was very helpful to me, im only starting to try wheelies and thought it was better to do them sitting down, and like you said finding the balance spot feels a lot higher when sitting which it does, and i was letting off the throttle when i got up so far thinking i was gonna flip over, i actually have a lot more confidence after reading your article and im practicing away, standing and split style, still looking for that balance point though
thanks for the info

Thanks Guys....I wish I could have gotten even more detailed in the article, but I was rambling a lot as it was, and I didn't want to make it "too" long that people wouldn't read it.

Keep up the practicing man...you'll find the elusive balance point soon enough.

My suggestion is find a nice flat area with a soft surface (grass, snow, etc.) put her in 1st gear, and just make yourself go for it. More than likely you will end up falling back on the grab bar, but as long as you are on flat ground, and don't do anything crazy once it comes up you'll be fine and the quad will either just skid to a stop, or you can hit the back brakes to bring it back down (prefered). You may also be going slow enough just to step off, which is better than attempting to ride it out without using the brakes.

Anyway, by forcing yourself to do things in a somewhat controled environment you will learn where the balance point is faster, and also learn what is best to do when things go wrong. Which will in turn take away a lot of the nervousness that you may have had.

Have fun man.

yeah i got her all the way up in 1st gear the 3rd time i tried a wheelie i was on concrete and i jumped off but ran with the quad, it was scary but probably wont be as scary the next time round as i have a FEEL for it going to high now,
do you reckon 1st is better than 2nd, 1st been a higher gear and having a more throttle response

LOL yeah that balance point is "elusive". I have found it, been past it without hitting grab bar my problem is trying to keep it in there. I'm always afraid I'm gonna fall over backwards and hit my head on the pavement. My quad seems to do them great standing up in second gear. Never really tried it standing up until this weekend, but I just rest my calfs against the plastic and lean back, no need to pop clutch. I never do the one foot on the grab bar, cause I feel like that's kinda cheating. Guess I could get some practice with that "elusive" balance point though.
