uhh oooo metal shaving
The very first time I dumped the oil in my Raptor after I bought it new, there were metal shavings. Should I rebuild? I find some in just about every oil change I do on any past or present quads.
I believe he said he found them in the oil filter. Sounds to me like the filter is doing its job.
Docturbo, if you want to rebuild at the first sign of smoke or metal shavings, knock yourself out. I thank you for your generous donations to our nations economy.
Have a nice day.

What happens is when the valve guides wear the valve stem can wobble around and wear out the valve seal that keeps engine oil out of the combustion chamber. The smoke comes from the oil that drains out of the head and trickles down the valve stem.

His warrior sounds exactly like mine. It smokes a little on start up, because the valve seals are starting to get worn. This isn't going to hurt anything at all as long as he keeps an eye on his oil level. I'm pretty damn sure that his metal shavings are coming from his failing starter clutch, because I experienced the same problem he is having and the shavings were mostly gone the last time I checked the filter. If anything goes wrong with his engine it's going to be because those metal shavings got into bearings and tore everything up. A rebuild isn't going to do any good when his metal shavings are coming from the starter clutch.

the several times ive rebuild motors ive never put new valves in them. so most likley the guy that rebuild my motor never either, so im not worried about the valves as i know the problem. but that starter clutch and metal shaving are what get my attention, what exactly happened when the starter clutch went out? did the one way teeth wear out? did it hurt anything else? cause i dont want to tear into the engine to find out nothin needs worked on.

maddmudder13, recon99 is giving you good advice. Check out the one way and see if that is where the metal is coming from. If so, you can buy a new one, flush the engine of metal and be on the trails again in no time.
One thing that REALLY concerns me is when you talk about the plug gap closing up. Only one thing would cause that. There is something loose in the combustion chamber, or something broke and caused contact. That is not good news any way you cut it.
Sorry I don't have better news for you, but plugs don't close up by themselves.
I would do a compression when you pull the plug to look at it today.
