Let it warm up for at least 10 minutes and even 15 would be okay... Five is not enough for normal operating temp. This is a first ride so this is a critical step to avoid a cold seize.. You don't need to let it cool down.. Ride it as much as you want. Nothing is going to happen. Drain the oil after your first day out.. You can run synthetic oil after 4 or 5 tanks of gas..

Read and re-read Motoman's article 3 or 4 times over.
His procedures and explaination are very thorough. He makes total sense.
Let it warm up completely (I feel the motor with my hand to tell when it is totally warmed up). If it is too hot to keep your hand on the side of the motor, then it should be warm enough. Then load the motor and let the rings seat properly. It is all outlined in the Motoman article.
