Ever wonder why the NHRA doesn't allow nitro-methane bikes (you will see west coast sanctioned races though).

Dakar those aren't even dirt bikes there motorcycles... huge difference
MX ... wrong ATV's are actually faster if the tracks are compatible meaning the motorcycles haven't screwed them up.
XC ... read Hawks evidence which I will take over your opinion anyday.
Flattrack ... possibly but due to past 15 yeays of stagnant ATV growth.
Baja ... possibly but who knows for how long. After all a baja dirt bike can't keep up with a Baja rail buggy which is also aka considered an ATV.

I like how you ignore the part I said about MX bikes getting major refinements every year. ATV's are lucky to get a few good refinements every 3 years. It is getting much better I will say.
ATV's will get better technology as time goes by, the Suzuki R450 is the FIRST quad that can be raced right off the showroom floor and be competitive in most amature classes and there will be more quads like this to come. So the technology will be there, but it will NEVER pass up the bikes, maybe be equal at most.
And no matter what technology a ATV has, it still isn't going to go as many places or do them faster than a dirtbike. They are held back by there nature, that is all there is to it. Any competent rider should understand that.

My point is ATV's were behind.. now they are not. I admit I forgot to use the word "were" in place of "are" my mistake. look at the context of the sentance I was talking about historicaly why dirt bikes have been ahead of ATV's but now they no longer are...

I will GIVE you my ATV and Bike if you can outrun me and complete the same tasks I do on a track OR wooded trails. Dunes I will give to you, I have no experience with that so I can't argue it.
