Plus it looks as though Some people (no names) need to be informed there quad isn't the cream of the crop. Like I said I love quads; BUT I have about $1,100 in my YZ250, and I would put it against his $5000+ rappy in anything/anyday/anytime, HELL I'll ducktape 2 flashlights to it, and smoke it at night too!

There is absolutely no way that one tire can garner enough traction than 2 wide contact pacthes. Furthermore your in sand. Don't you know anything about drag bikes vs top fuel funny cars. The drag super bikes are fast but no where near a top fuel dragster with 4 wheels.
The same logic goes for ditrbikers. Not to mention you can't tuck a superbike frame in a dirt bike chassis. No way! However you can in an ATV. SO I guess chalk one up for the quad guys...

One more thing.....take a bike rider and an atv rider to a track each do 5 laps on their own machines and 5 on the opposite machine........I'll bet the bike rider has a better 10 lap average than the quad guy. IT TAKES MORE TALENT TO RIDE BIKES, that's one reason there's less bike riders.

I will take my comments even a step further. In almost every arena and venue I can think of as technology has moved along, 4 wheel vehicles have ALWAYS in turn done better than 2 wheel vehicles. They have been faster, higher top speeds, better aerodynamics, able to corner better, out maneuver and carry higher hp than 2 wheel vehicles. Compare a superbike say a gsxr 1000, zx10 or even a 500 gp bike against a f1 car, compare a top fuel dragster against a drag motorcycle, compare the land speed record cars against the fastest motorcycles according to Guiness book of world records.
You can claim all you want that dirt bikes are faster or whatever you want and in some venues they are but this does not change the fact that they are going to possibly be beat out by future ATV's. Look the only reason why ATV's have not exceded there 2 wheel counter parts in dirt in the last 15 years is due to regulations and restrictions, laws pushed by lawsuits. But times are changing and yes very soon there will be a day when an ATV chassis will weigh probably no less than 20 extra pounds heavier than a dirtbike chassis. Not to mention more important add two wider contact patches to the rear and more hp every year and these new generation ATV's will dessimate dirt bikes. It has happened in every arena, in every environment thus far in history.
It is just a matter of time ATVs will replace dirt bikes, history has shown us. And more changes have been made in the last 3 years to ATVS then dirt bikes could even dream of. Compare the latest changes made from the 400ex's to the newer Suzuki 450's, there isn't even a remote relation. Imagine where this will go in just 3 more years. Heck like I mentioned before last years 450s are already out cornering dirt bikers on MX tracks.
Move over dirt bikes your reign has come to an end!

cctman .......Ok.....I have to ask you.....When you say that ATV's are better because of EFI and stuff........What do you mean by better? It runs cleaner? (yea!) It has better throttle responce? ( I have to go with the 2-stroke Bikes on this one) It makes more power (if you use power to weight ......NO way!) As the suspention goes If your talking stock for stock here; YOUR nuts! If for some reason you are talking aftermarket......I could build a bike that would smoke any 4 wheeler you can come up with (talking on dirt )(If I had the cash too )
Now; dont get me wrong I love Quads! But what you are dreaming of here, DUDE your way off! The quads are catching up in overall performance; but by no means are better "overall" than a dirtbike. So NO,,,the Dirtbike will NOT move out of the way!
I would like to add....I am talking about the MX style dirtbike, and the performance style two wheel drive quads. Comparing apples to apples here. Any idiot will admit that a 4x4 quad does better in deap mud.

I have to disagree with that, it takes more talent to ride a ATV than a dirt bike. The quad weighs more and is alot harder to throw around you have 2 front wheels that travel independent of each other, you slide more on a quad, you have to move around alot more on a quad. I think the quad rider would post faster times on average on both machines. If yopu think you can just sit on a quad and drive it like a car you will get hurt sooner or later.
I started on a 1984 TT600 and I still ride it once in awhile, and I will say it is alot harder to successfuly control my raptor than the Bike. Plus when I crash on the bike it falls over and stops, the raptor will come after me everytime. Bikes are alot eaiser to ride, sure anybody can get on a quad and put around, but let them try to control it in 5th wide open and see what happens. Now get on a bike and try the same and it is alot eaiser to hang onto.

Dakar those aren't even dirt bikes there motorcycles... huge difference
MX ... wrong ATV's are actually faster if the tracks are compatible meaning the motorcycles haven't screwed them up.
XC ... read Hawks evidence which I will take over your opinion anyday.
Flattrack ... possibly but due to past 15 yeays of stagnant ATV growth.
Baja ... possibly but who knows for how long. After all a baja dirt bike can't keep up with a Baja rail buggy which is also aka considered an ATV.

Not only are bikes faster in MX, XC, Baja, Dakar, Drags, etc... but in flat track to. Don't you find it funny how bikes from the 70's will outrun a current ATV in Flattrack Racing?

It is only considered an atv up to 800cc after that it is an orv. Keep talking......I mean digging.

ATV's are now putting in the same type of frames as used in modern day superbikes. And yes I'm refering to the 700 raptor.

Honda MX bikes has had five, yes FIVE, generations of aluminum frames in the last 10 years. I can't think of a quad with a second generation frame. Unless you want to say the Raptor 660 and 700R is the same bike.
