Yeah, if you pulled your airbox lid and started the engine you'd hear it. Just make sure you have the filter positioned right when you put the lid back on. I would respect that a lot, if you could admit you're wrong when you know it, most guys would deny it at all costs. To a lot of guys admitting that they're wrong sometimes is like smashing their ego with a hammer.
I assume the sound comes from the air getting pulled into the cylinder rapidly, because when the intake valve opens there's only a very short time peroid for the cylinder to fill with air, so you hear the air suck in.
