what knid of chain is it?? i've never been around anyone who has used a special tool for it.. aslong as you're careful and don't bent the clip you will be fine with using normal tools...

Ya pulled out instructions from chain and it doesnt say anything about a press fit chain tool. Guess service manual just took extra safety measures or something or maybe is for a older type of chain. Just checkin before i put it it on lol

The manual says that because some factory chains don't have a master link, so you have to remove one of the pins to break the chain, then press the pin back in to reinstall the chain. Any aftermarket chain will have a master link, so no special tools are required.

So you don't have to "press" the pins back in to flatten the ends off so they don't come out?
I know the master link pins will fit back in and the plate and clip slides right on, but I thought it was a
extra precaution to ensure the link doesn't come out to flatten the pins with a press tool....
I am getting to ready to install new chain, so if pressing the pins is not neccesary let me know...
I know you can't get the stock chain master link out because the pins on the plate are pressed and/or
flattened...That's why you have to break the chain...Just let me know...Maybe I am clueless, but it
seems like an awful lot to ask of the clip pen to hold the master link together....

It's unnecessary to press the pins, it didn't even say anything about pressing the pins in the installation instructions for my Parts Unlimited X-Ring chain. I don't know anybody that ever had problems with the master link falling off once it was installed correctly, just make sure the closed end of the clip is pointing in the direction of travel.

Thanks for the input....I put my new chain on last night and it was fairly simple....
Once I broke the old chain(with a chain breaktool from Rocky Mountain, $9)...
I was shocked to see how badly "stretched" my stock chain was....
I can actually use the chain adjusters with the new chain...They are
less than half way out now...They were all the way out(tighten) with the stock chain....
I'm glad I changed it out...Didn't realize a chain could be that "stretched out"...
The bike "grabs" the gears so much better now...Something I will definitely
keep an eye on from now on....Good cheap repair(less than $40) for added performance...
