NEW GRIZZ... 700 FI

you can bash yamaha all you want Kernel, all the problems your friends grizz and your kodiak had a what not, being a dealer that sells 80 percent of our quads to farmers and ranchers, they do abuse them, and yes there are problems, yours sound a little worse than some we've experienced, but theres bad apples in every bunch. can't say we've had a bunch of major engine problems on polaris' we've seen, but neither have we with grizzlys. but maybe your buddy should ditch his grizzly and go for a poolaris, then we can all place bets on how long he goes before he needs to replace belts, get aftermarket CV axles put on instead of pure polaris u-joints cause they wear out and break, or new racks cuz the plastic ones weren't cutting it,or a full time chiroprachter cuz his back hurts from having to pull start it cuz the batttery and starter suck, and also b/c he will break his back trying to move it when its stuck cuz it weighs about as much dry as a yamaha with 2 riders on it. or a new seat so his wife can have kids....anyways, you and your friend may have had a bad yamaha experience. anyways i just had to vent a little anger there but i'm not saying polaris are all bad, i've had a lot of time on 500 HO's and 700 EFI's and there not all that bad. but im sure that more people have been extremely pleased with their purchases of kodiaks and grizzlys than not.

To have that many blown engines is really rare for any atv manufacture. I have seen plenty grizzlies that have 10-15000 kms that are rough looking but run great. Generally if a person is having that many problems it is usually lack of proper maintenance or poor mechanical workmanship. The experience of only 2 or 3 people isn't a fair assesement by any means. Ihave heard way to many good stories about Yamaha to make me change my mind. My riding buddy siezed his SP800 solid becuase of something shearing off on the oil pump with only 1500 kms. I thought that they also had a problem with cold starting and lack of lubrication with the first few 700 EFI's. To think Polaris engines are any better than anything else is a bit of a stretch. Like you said each to there own but take a look at the Highlifter forum and you will find quite a few problems with Polaris ATVs.

I've raced a 2003 Prairie 650 with the CDI and 25" tires against my 27 " tires on my stock King and won. Also a 2006 Arctic Cat 700 with stockers on it also and won, but not by as much.

I have to laugh at anyone using a farmer or rancher as an example of reliability for anything. The only time they ever check anything out is when something falls off or quits. 10 bucks says he checked the oil two or less times, each time it broke.

I kept readn people talking about yamaha grizzly reliability. Erm im not stompn on no toes but you folks probably flat out do not dish out the abuse and extensive riding my best friend (farmer) does. He has an '04 grizzly that has been less than reliable. When i tell you its had two engine replacements in 5450 miles i mean exactly THAT. Lemon? No, There are several other grizs 30miles north of us with similiar problems. It overheats like there is no tomorrow, Electrical wiring is not great, and even the digital display malfunctioned( gas gauge) Now with my '05 Kodiak its been in shop to replace all four differential seals, tie rods under recall, and other minor wiring aggravation. Folks can yap all they want but you dont beat Polaris Fuji four strokes and older Honda 300 engines, (not bashing ive ownd honda also (rancher) and so have friends). I like my Kodiak alright, its a very nice machine but leaves much to be desired, especially in power even for a 421cc. Im not even gonna get started on "Power steering", hit the damn gym people. I dont trust yamaha with that for one spit eyed second. Before i get asked about why im not goin polaris since i praise them is money once again, I want a Sp 800 bad, BUT for the money i can get close power performance sacrificing some ride and handling for around $1500-1600 less. My bud's griz is also tippy as my kodiak is baddd, its like the irs works more like a semi-independent but oh well its still a good machine. People are going to like what they like, so thats cool, but the only machine that my friend rode to a 100 PERCENT GUARENTEE over 10,000 miles with virtually no maintence was his Trx honda 300 4x4 the lil boring quad that could lol. Good riding yall

Well I do think we have got nearly all the differences between the KQ and 700 griz out on the table. One other thing I did see was that the Yam has 44 mm FI throttle body and I think I have seen that the Suzi has a 42 mm body but not positive since I could not confirm. So that may help make up for lower compression and smaller displacement of Yam. And regarding the center console mounted 3rd headlight, I'm not sure this is any better than new high intensity halogen lights on Griz. At least with the Yam you will not need to add a seperate switch to turn off the center light to eliminate glare with front racks loaded. I am really reaching for straws now.
No question about KQ and 700 Griz both going after the big center portion of the market place with Can-Am going after the more speed/less utility end while AC and Polaris going after more utility/more comfort end of market. Honda seems to be content with keeping the Rincon at the top in easy terrain performance and keeping the Rancher and Foreman at top in reliability and simplicity. Kawi seems be shooting for very good performance and full featured while trying hard to keep the price as low as possible.
I don't see being able to honestly use the term "better" when comparing the KQ, the ACs, or the 700 Griz but rather just call them slightly different but all excellent full featured machines from manufacturers trying to find the damn target.

I think you nailed it there. A better questions is not which one is better but which one it better for you and your riding style and budget. The 700 class is the by far the best class of atv's out there. There is definetley one in there that your going to like. With some real stiff competition.
