beartracker reverse lock-up
#1
has anyone had an issue with a 2000 beartracker 250 locking up in reverse, once it is in reverse it will not go back into the foward gears no matter how much i try. any help would be great. thanks!

Need a little more info. Did you find any ways to get it back into forward gears? If it just won't go back into reverse when the engine is running, but when you shut it off it goes back in fine you're probably looking at a cluch related problem.

it went into reverse and you can shut the engine off and it still is locked up, it will start in reverse but will not go back to the foward gears. i have tried to adjust the linkage with no luck and just thought i would check and see if anyone had a easy fix before i cracked the case. thanks.

I have a 2004 beartracker, and every once in a while, it does that, but it's not just reverse. So while sitting on it, I rock it back and forth pretty hard, and it finally goes, it also does it when you are trying to shift down. Like I am sitting on it, but stand up and rock it while stepping down on the footgear, kinda having to step down WHILE you rock it forward at same time, if that makes any sense? But never had a problem with it while actually driving, just when comes to a stop. So it seems to me like it COULD be a clutch thing, bc just like a standard car, you dont have to work clutch if you get it to just right rpm.

after it sat for awhile it came out of reverse, i soaked the linkage w/ wd-40 and let it set overnight. i guess i will see what it does next time its riden hard. thanks

I had a timberwolf before that also had that same stupid reverse lever. I used to think Honda's grab the brake and push a button was silly but it actually works and you only have to upshift to get back to neutral. There's even a way to override that, a guy on ebay used to make little fiberglass pieces that wedged in the cable that locked the button in place or you can simply zip tie the button down so all you have to do is pull the brake and downshift from neutral to get to reverse. If I had trouble getting out of reverse, as soon as I got it out of reverse I would never use reverse again. I never did use reverse on the timberwolf. The lever worked but it was a pain to use and the brakes were bad so it was hard to get it to stop and go into reverse as you have to be in first gear to shift the reverse lever(it was a $500 atv, it smoked really badly so the brakes weren't the biggest issue, lol, it wasn't worth spending any money on, I just rode it the way it was until it got to the point where it lost so much compression that it was hard to start and got rid of it) If I needed to back up, I put it in neutral and pushed it.
