warrior wont run
#1
I was out riding my 99 warrior for about an hour today. I came back to the house let it cooled washed it off and about 2 hours later a buddy of mine wanted to ride. I rode to meet him (about a 10 min ride) i got to his house turned it off he got on rode it for about 5 minutes and turned it off. I then got on and started riding about a minute into the ride it started sputtering on me when i throttled it then it died. It started back up but died again. Then it wouldnt start at all just click except for about 3 times out of the 20 times i tried it then it would idel for about 30 seconds then die. Any ideas? I am thinking that some dirty gas got in and glogged the carberator, would that cause these symptoms? thanks

first make sure you got gas in it, if you didnt thats why, if you did drain it all out and try putting some carb cleaner through mixed with premium through the carb, let it run if you get it started dont give it gas right away. If that doesnt work you gotta take apart the carb and clean it. Dont get too worried im sure its one of those two problems nothing more.

I checked the air filter and it was fine, i was worried about it at first because i had gone through a small stream on my way to my friends house, but it was fine no water. It had gas and it was on and i pulled the carb off to try to take it apart but i had trouble taking out the screws that hold the float bowl on they are in there tight and i started stripping them so i stopped. I will try the carb cleaner and premium tomarrow. Any ideas for getting those screws off though? I used PB blaster and still couldnt get them off. Also could a bad spark plug cause something like this? I pulled it out and put it back in and that was one of the times it started after a couple tries, it ideled for about 30 seconds then died. I am going to try a new spark plug tomarrow just incase but just wasnt sure if these are even symptoms of something like that. thanks

Also another thing to check is the vent system in the gas cap. If that gets stuck in the closed position air won't be able to enter the tank as fuel exits, which will stop fuel from flowing. Try loosening the cap when it starts acting up.

To get the screws out of the float bowl your best bet is to use locking pliers (vice grips). Then take them to a hardware store and get a set of allen head screws in the same size, or even just regular steel screws if they don't have allen heads. Yamaha uses very weak fasteners, which is why yours wouldn't come out properly. I swear they're made out of a mixture of aluminum and lead, i don't know how else they would break, get stuck, and strip out so easily.
When you take the bowl off the carb be careful not to loose the accelerator pump spring, and to put it back in when you're finished. Everybody loses that little spring and it will cause problems down the road if it's not installed.

I figured out th eproblem but have no idea how to fix it. Some connection to my spark plug is messed up. At first i couldnt get a spark then i messed with some wires and got one. I put the plug in and it fired up ideled for 20 seconds then died then i messed with the wires again and same thing. I have no clue about engine electrics so I was just wondering what I could do to fix this I took all the plstic off so i could see the wires back to the battery but still have no idea what is going on. I have pretty good mechanical skills but no electrical skills. Is this something I could fix or do i need to bring it in to the dealership? thanks

My best guess with this new information is the spark plug cap, which snaps onto the spark plug, and connects to the plug wire with a spade that slides into the wire sheath. If that cap fits loosely it'll pull out of the sheath and loose contact as the engine vibrates, which would explain why it only works for a few seconds.
