Tire suggestions
Hello everyone. Need advise choosing a tire. I'll be taking my 03 raptor on a Baja trip soon. It's time to replace the OE tires. Any suggestions on tires? I am looking towards Holeshots or Razr. I am only looking to replace the rear OE tires that are Dunlop 20X10X9. Can someone also explain what the tire size mean and what will happen if I go with a different size. Thanks in advance

The bigger the tire the more topend you have and the less torque. I have 20's and they work great. If your going on a Baja trip I would STRONGLY reccomend getting a 6ply tire, being the heat and rocks and all the weird stuff you will be running over. I have holeshot HD's all the way around and they hook up amazing. You should look into those. They are a tad heavier (not as much as everyone says) and about 5-10 bucks more a tire but well worth the investment. They will last a few years riding fequently. List your mods and we will be able to help you with tire size and gearing suggestions. You want alot of topend on baja trips.

I would also reccommend staying with a size 20. Alot of people run 22's and like them but I tried a set I had on my 700 and like the 20's alot better. If you want different gearing change your sprockets.
Tires i would look at would be Holeshot HD's, Razer ll, I Razers or Holeshot XCR's. I think Ive decided to go with the XCR's my self as they still hook up good and allow for good cornering. They are also a little lighter than the rest of these choices.

I asked Maxxis about a good desert tire by e-mail several months ago. They said the Razr II is designed for wet loamy conditions, like GNCC east cost races. The regular Razr would be a better choice for Baja, and the i-Razr is also a good choice. We run the i-Razr tires for desert racing on the YFZ 450, and they work well (my son just trophied at a desert race today with the YFZ).
