Default 2005 YFZ450 Carb Problems.

Hey everyone, I have a 2005 Yamaha YFZ450 SE... A few months ago I was out riding it and it just stalled on me and wouldn't start back up... so I brought it to the dealership to have it looked at. They said that the main jet had seized in the carb, it ended up costing me about $330 to get fixed. I kinda shrugged it off thinking it was just a one time thing... few months later same thing happens, this time I got the dealership to fix it for free... they told me to prevent it from happening again, before I stop riding it turn the fuel petcock to off position and let it run dry and I will be all set... I have owned a few quads before this and have never done that before and never had a problem.... so I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with their YFZ's and also if you guys run em dry before putting them away. any help would be appreciated

I have the same quad and changed both pilot and main jets and have had no problem with either. To date I have not had to run the bowl dry before shutting it down nor have I ever heard of doing so. The bike is kinda expensive for that to be required.

Sorry for not being much help. Hopefully more people reply.

I have a some similar promblems with the bike dying out i found it to be the needle in the float bowl was stuck and had to be cleaned out also had it stuck full open and spilled gas out of carb.It seems if you dont start it up aleast every 3 weeks it tends to happen. It might be a good idea to run it with the gas off until it dies then there is nothing to gum up in there.
