2007 yfz oil change help!
It's probably the same as my 2005, so the total oil capacity is near 2 quarts.
What I've been doing is put 1/4 of a quart in the lower filler, then a full quart in the reservoir. Start it up to running temp, rev a couple times, then top off the reservoir.
The oil filter is located just forward of the clutch housing, you'll see three bolts in a triangle pattern, remove the bolts (watch the O rings), and waa-laa....oil filter!!!

on the '06, it's 1.55 liters for the resivoir and 0.22 liters the case (WITHOUT filter), with the filter change i think you just put 0.32 liters in the case instead of 0.22, not sure about that though, 1000 mL in 1 L, a quart has 946 mL i believe. so bascially if you change the filter too, it won't hurt to put a 1/4 quart in the case, and the rest + 1 quart in the resivoir. In reference to the skid plate, i just always take it off, it's a pain in the ***, but if you don't, then you'll wind up getting oil on your bike/skid plate.
Also the oil filter, is directly to the right of the clutch cover, and to the upper -left- of the coolant pump. There should be 3 allens to take out, the botttom one first, it's the drain, then the top 2 and it'll fall right off. Make sure you remember which comes from which hole b/c they are alll different lengths. *haha note too, the filter has a front and back, don't put it on backwards :-P *
One last thing, i know people disagree over this, but i read alot of places, and heard from yamaha techs that synthetic oil will allow the breakdown of the clutch faster, more so cause slippage. If i were you, i wouldn't put syn. in it. Also, you should be changeing your oil basically EVERY ride, or so...if not the wrist pin may cease, or over time the crank may cease as well. They redesigned the system for the '07's but i heard that it still happens, so be precautious and change your oil frequently, after all oil is alot cheaper then a rebuilt, haha.
Hope all this crap helps ya.
ps. the manual tells ya the amounts.

thank you for agreeing with me getem
on the yamalube note, i heard that they don't meet some specs other oils do, don't get me wrong yamalube is a good oil, there are some better ones out there.
Also you might not worry about clutch slip, but in reality you're going slower not realizing it and there are particals from the clutch that are geting into your oil so not only is the syn. oil not lubing as well, but it's also causeing the fibers to hurt your system even more so =)
off topic a little, i see commercials all the time for syn. oils in cars, and not having to change your oil for like 5000 10,000 and even 15000 miles...it's really confusing me b/c if **** gets in your oil...and it gets dirty and doesn't lube as well, how does having better molecules help your engine at all when the oil is like mud at 15k miles...<--question and rant.
