Default 02 Raptor - Woot!

Just got it for $2200. Runs great and looks good to.

What are the better rear tires for general mudding and trail riding and how do I replace them? Meaning do I have to take them to a tire shop or ? Where to get tires? Discount, NTB etc? Or best to get online?

I know change the antifreeze (fairly dark in color), check oil(he said he recently changed it). Lube all the spots and oil the chain.

What else do I need to look for / do?

Thanks,
Chris

What's the axle and the a-arms for?

I assume the tires have to be pressed on?

By the way this thing is all stock as it stands. And crazy mods are not desired to be in my future. That's why I have the 78

Thanks,
Chris

the tires need to be dismounted and the new ones mounted on the new wheels. since the raptor is tippy, which means that it tends to tip to the sides you need to make the raptor widder for more stability and control and thats when the extended axle and extended a-arms come into play. i had +2 a-arms which means it adds two inches to each side for a total of 4 inches and i liked it. but now i have +3 a-arms for racing. if you buy an axle and youre short in budget buy the rockymountain g-force axle. ive raced with it and its great, the nuts dont loosen up and it hasnt bent. the good thing about this axle is that it comes with lifetime warranty so is it bends or some other damage, rockymountain will replace it for free.

Good info - I was thinking they break or something. I need to get used to it and don't really plan on racing but I might look into this later if I feel it's too tippy for me. Going to teach my 13 year old to ride it as well, mainly just farting around. Thanks again!

If you're going to take it easy, teach him and keep an eye on him by accompanying him when he rides then yes it's not a big deal.

I spent some time learning on my father's 250R, but when I was new to the sport I sure as heck wasn't ready for it. And that was after riding motorcycles for 4 years.

But throwing an inexperienced kid on one of the most powerful atvs available and turning him loose just because he's proven to you he can ride around the yard without crashing is where we have a problem. I'm not suggesting that's what you'll do, but rather trying to explain the concern many of us have in these situations.

And the kids on motorcycles are probably on 85's and 125 two strokes or 125 and 250 trail bred thumpers, small machines that are better suited to their size. Not 450cc race bikes or a 500cc two stroke.
