450r vs. 700 Raptor?
#31
I have seen several vids on you tube between the yfz450 and the raptor 700r. I don't know how the trx450r compares, but the two yamahas seem to run about neck and neck. One thing you have to remember. the raptor is designed as a trail burner, while the 450's are designed to race on the track. Maybe the raptor has a much larger engine, but the stock compression of a raptor is 9.2. I don't know what the trx450r's ratio is, but the yfz has an 11.4 comp. ratio. that makes up for a lot of the displacement advantage that the raptor has.

only 11.4 on the yfz???? the o4 had 11.9 if im not mistaken, and i've never heard of a manufacturer bumping down the comrpession on a quad, more like 12.0 or 12.5 which is what most 450s run
the 450r is 12.5:1 compression ratio
a new piston doesnt cost all that much- just imagine a 13.5:1 compression 700 raptor, the 450s wouldnt stand a chance

Me and two of my friends just bought two raptors and a yfz. We've spent the last 4 days riding in Florence, OR and Winchester bay, OR. Both stock the 700 pulled on the 450 on flat or up a dune, not by much but just enough.
