Default Raptor reverse problem?

On my '04 660 R Raptor I have a reverse question.
It doesn't seem to want to go backwords no matter how hi or low the throttle is.
It also back fires, hesitates and if I let the clutch out at idle, no matter how carefully it will stall. I think I'm way away from the rev limiter most times it happens.
What should I look for?
In forward it runs like there's a fire to get too!!
This forum is great, thanks very much in advance.
Bill the newbie.

Mine does the same thing, I blame the reverse rev limiter being set to low, or the gearing for reverse is too high. I don't know of a fix for it though.

Default Raptor reverse problem?

bought it new, its an 05 model, if i push it backwards when i try and use reverse i can get it to go as long as i'm not tryin to back up a hill. It would be nice if it worked better. My girlfriends 87 warrior has reverse and it works no problem at all.

I've got a call into Yamaha Corporate (800-962-7926) and they say they need my VIN #, that's bull, I have it at home will call back after work.
I Called a local dealer and he was less help!
I'll let yopu know what I find out...

Like fordnut5 said it sounds like the reverse rev limiter. I had this problem with my '04 660R, the '07 seems to work fine

Default Raptor reverse problem?

Read the current threads, there is one that has been updated in the LAST 24 HOURS that includes the fix.

Try looking around for these answers, whether on this site or just a google search.

Default Raptor reverse problem?

You are dealing with the famous 'reverse RPM' limiter... we all have it (except for '01's) and most of us hate it. Yammy put it there to 'protect' us from going too fast in reverse.

Here's the recent thread that details the fix:

http://forums.atvconnection.co...tid/13/threadid/540079 .

Good Luck!
