Hi all,
Just signed up today and have been doing a lot of reading. I just bought my quad Friday, it's an 03 450 with 540 miles on it and I paid 2500.00, it has a few cosmetic issues, but it seems like it was well taken care of and not beat too bad. However, it has a bent rim, so I was wondering if anyone had a stock matching rim that they want to sell I'd be interested for sure. I'd like to know ASAP as I should order a new one to have it for the weekend of the fourth this week.

Plus the tire's are ok, but I'd like something different, they seemed to spin a lot and it looks like it was ridden on the road a lot or something. So I've been looking, any suggestions would be great. I'm planning on trail riding, and riding in the dunes. Some mud, but I'm not sure if there is going to be enough to warrent mud tires.

Also...What should this thing be doing top end. I didn't run it hard long, but maybe 1/3 of a mile or so and I was seeing 47ish...Plenty for me, but just curious. I'm about 300lbs so that will slow it down a bit...This thing rocks though! It's tons of fun!!!

You can see the bent rim in this pic...I've wondered about trying to bend it back, but I think a new or diff. rim is a better idea!

I ended up going with some Kenda Bearclaws for tires, per some of the threads I read on this site, they seem like they will suite my needs just fine for now!

Good quad at a reasonable price. You will have tons of fun on the trails and in the dirt.

Yup! Your tires look like they have seen a lot of pavement or hard surface trails.

Bearclaws are decent tires. Another good tire are Mudlites. The stock Maxxis tires on my 450 work pretty good in mud.

Your 47ish is right in the ball park for top speed out of a 450.

I can get about 82-84 km/hr (51-52 MPH) out of mine and I have lots of extra weight compared to yours like a front rack, rear seat (full of tow straps, etc), front brush guard, side guards and a fuel can on the back. Plus it carries my 215 lbs and my 10 year old daughter on the back (about 60-80 lbs). Me alone on flat pavement I'm good for close to 88 km/hr (55 MPH). That's plenty fast enough for a utility ATV with tires that aren't designed for high speed handling.

I don't see a winch on yours. That's a must if you go anywhere remote and I would invest in some type of front bumper/guard for those trees that jump out in front of you.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

I'm thinking if I went longer then a short burst she's got 50 in her for sure. I'm 300lbs and the under the seat is full of tools, and I had a cooler for fish on the back. So I think thats fine, plenty fast for me!

A winch and a front bumper/gaurd is on the list, might not happen this summer unless I can find one used or something. I'm not sure why it's not there. I have the front rack, but the other stuff is missing....I know I need something to protect the front, but I actually like the look without the rack. I have a small 12v winch 3000lbs, not made for quads, but I was wondering if I could retro fit it somehow, my good friend is a metal work and could hook me up....We'll see!

Wow great deal. That is the kind of deal that I have been looking for my wife. she would be happy with that I'm sure. Where did you ever find a deal like that and are there anymore Kodiaks anywhere near the high desert of So Cal? I already have over 850 miles (500 of it mostly technical trails (slow goin - crawling) and only a few little problems.. My stock tires are still treating me just fine! I recently removed the Rear Sway bar and man did that make a big difference in the rocks / off-camber. Still corners decent at 30-35 but I have to "lean" into the turn.. but I am used to that as I am a Sledder.

I need to adjust my valves soon - it ticks a bit...

Is the bent rim causing any problems? I just got an after market rim to make up a spare. While looking around I saw that I needed to replace both rims and keep them a matching set if I was going to install them on the quad full time. It might be cheaper to buy a OEM rim from the dealer than to buy two after market rims.

Thanks for the Link. I haven't been on often, gosh it's been a month! Had to dig forever to find my post.

I have around 200 miles on the quad now and it's still treating me very well! I love it! I've been on one trail ride and then I've been riding on some gravel roads and out on the sand dunes here in Silver Lake, MI. It's a great time!

The tires work really great and I'm very happy with them. We have some wet areas on our property that are quite mucky and nasty, so I decided to try them out. Went into the first one and didn't realize how soft it was, I was in 2wd and very little momentum. I suck it up to the frame and had to get pulled out, so I put it in 4x4 and drove right through it, then went slower with the diff locked and it was awesome, flinging mud everywhere and tearing stuff up is great! The tires were awesome, the stock ones were nearly bald!

Yep, the bent rim wouldn't allow the bead to stay sealed unless I was riding it on the roads, any flexing of the tire, and deflating them to about 2.5-3psi for the dunes it would just leak all the air out, I just carried a small hand pump and put air in it every so often.

I wanted some nice ITP rims, and I was very close to pulling the trigger when I bought my tires, I think I could have gotten my tires and new rims for right around 500.00 shipped, but the 300.00 on rims is better in the savings account for now!!!

I would recomend these tires to anyone who needs a decent all around tire, cheap, heavy duty 6ply, and pretty agressive and they handle very well.
