1/8 = 0.125 and I'd look for thicker if you can... I can take pictures of my GYTR Belly skid on my Grizzy... it has taken a beating... but there are some good gouges in its..

6061-T6 is better if the plate is totally flat and doesn't need to be bent... is not that formable, somewhat brittle due to heat treating and not as good as far as corrosion goes.. I chose the 5052 because my metal shop can use their shear for up to .290 if it is 5052 and only 0.150 if it is 6061 as 6061 is about 25% stronger than 5052. 90% of the aftermarket skids made by reputable sellers are made from 5052.
