does the cooling fan run? those things like to lock up with no warning at all. you can get them off fleabay pretty cheap if that is the problem. a new one is crazy high. like 250 bucks.

Is it really overheating? My 02 does the same, the fan runs quite a bit but it doesn't overheat where it is boiling of smoking. I had the recall done after I did it myself, long story, and it doesn't stumble, vapor lock, anymore. They do have a tendency to run pretty warm though.

Your radiator could be clogged with Mud.... making it run warm.... depending on where you live you should also run the 20W40 or 20W50 oil...

I think the oil recommended in the owner's manual should be fine. I would agree with the mud clog though. I would take a hose and squirt it out real good (yes, I'm still talking about the radiator).

The owners manual does recommend 20W40 (20W50 -older Yamalube) Above 40 (F). It all depends on where you live and the temperatures you ride... I agree that 10W30 is more of an "all-season" oil... but I run the 20W50 spring/summer/fall.
