Take someone with you.
Take a small jack and lug wrench.
Start the quad, rev it up check for black-running rich- or blue-burning oil-smoke.
Turn the handlebars straight, have friend check if wheels are pointed straight, and tires straight vertical . Turn bars fully left and right, have friend check wheels are fully turned each way, if not, quad may be wrecked and steering wacked up.
Jack front of quad up, have friend hold handle bars, grab a wheel and shake side to side and up and down. If loose, may be bad bearings, or hub, tie rods, steering bushing, or any number of things. Check both sides.
Remove tires and check brakes, look for excessive rust on rotor, does rotor turn freely, or does it bind?. Check both sides.
Do the same checks for the rear, look for signs of fluid leaks,if evident, seals may be gone;rear diff damaged from lack of fluid. Check cv joint boots for tears, If torn, look for rust or lack of grease.
If all these items check out, ride the quad and see if you like it. If they don't, I would walk away..
The last thing you want is to buy a quad for $1800 that you need to spend another 1-3 thousand dollars to repair.
Good Luck, hope it's a keeper.
