Throttle
#1
I have a 2007 YFZ450 used for MX. I was thinking of putting a twist throttle on because the thumb throttle is stiff. Are there any advantages to either one? Can a lighter spring be put on? Any thoughts? Thanks.

yea i think they make a kit or part for that on some store i think, try using google but a twist throttle on a quad just doesnt work so well for me when combined with movin around so much on an atv its kinda difficult.

not to mention that ATVs require a lot more steering input and control from the operator. your right hand will become very useless due to the twist throttle. a guy that used to work with me bad a blaster with a twist throttle and he was trail riding one day. and had to make a very quick turn to avoid another 4 wheeler and when he turned hard left, his right hand twisted back on the throttle, sending him in to a tree. he broke his foot.
twist throttles are for motorcycles IMHO.

I can only tell you what I see, racing the quad mx series you just never see a twist throttle. Like the above post says there is just too much steering and moving around on one to work. A cheap way to make the thumb throttle a little easier is to put an extention on it, this is what my son did on his Blaster. I would imagine you could probably cut the spring but to me that would be risky.

There was a time (a couple years ago) when one or two of the top pros used a twisty but I think they have all converted over to the thumb now........
