Default Wolvie clutching

I'm about to buy a stock 2007 450 wolvie, and I am considering the Hauck clutch work. Sounds great.

Is there a reason why the Yamaha engineers didn't do this originally? The only thing that I can see as a potential downside is belts not lasting.

For those of you out there who have had the work done, what effects has it had on belts?
