Default Warrior not shifting into neutral easily

Sometimes my 02 Warrior seems to be skipping Neutral. I can get on the quad, shift down from N into 1, then click up once on the shifter and I am in 2. Then I can click down on the shifter and go back into 1. It's like the trans just skips right over N. Other times it'll go right into neutral just fine, although I've never gotten it to go into N while moving, only while stopped. Sometimes when I come to a stop I can get it to go into N and all is fine, other times I can stop and hunt up and down between 1 and 2 a dozen times and not get into N. I've tried moving forwards or backwards a bit, doesn't matter. Seems very intermittant and I don't know why. Other than that it runs, shifts and drives like a champ with no strange noises or vibrations. I adjusted the free play on the clutch cable to between .5-1cm like the service manual I have says.

Anyone have any ideas why it's doing this?

the point spots on the shift star between first neutral and second may be getting some wear to them so the shift drum roller may be rolling right over the neutral spot.

Warrior's have a notoriously hard to find neutral. Some guys have some luck by running full synthetic motorcycle oil. Its nothing to be concerned about, though.

I had the same problem. I switched to a full synthetic, and its very easily to find neutral. It shifts so nice now too.

oh i didnt know that. i know the one on my motorcycle is a wet clutch and i put 10w-30 in it and my clutch slip while accelerating, but will catch.

which ever oil you pick i dont think that would help you find neutral.

The oil does help. Synthetic oils break down less under heat and maintain the quality of lubrication throughout the heat cycle...versus traditional oils which are more susceptible to break down and thinning under heat, providing less lubrication, and harder to find neutrals.

Just switch to a full synthetic, and be SURE its WET CLUTCH SAFE and you should notice an improvement. The only other thing you can really do is add an oil cooler.
