Default ATV newb, need help!

So i just bought a 89 Moto 4 350. i've never had a 4 wheeler before, but i've worked on cars forever, so i figured it wouldn't be a bad deal for $450. it starts and moves on it's own, runs pretty smooth. so far i've taken everything apart, plastics, etc. and cleaned teh whole machine and sanded and painted the frame, bumpers, etc. found that every cable on it is rusted almost solid, so i'm in the market for a bunch of replacement cables.

i have a couple questions:
the most important, the transmission seems broken. well.... the shifter has about 6" of up and down travel but doesn't shift teh gears. i feel like i'm stuck in a gear, which one i dont know. first or 2nd i think becuase it takes off just fine but runs out of revs pretty quick.

what does it need to fix it?
i may take a vid of the play in the shifter so you guys can see what i mean.

thanks.

what carb is this?

yes that port is on the bottom of the carb. it's not the fuel inlet, as that is already hooked up above.

thats probably the over flow nipple since its at the bottom of your bowl, my dirt bike carb had that aswell but there was a clear hose that ran to the bottom of the bike to spill the excess fuel if it was flooded

apparently the tranny is screwed up though, feels like it only has one gear. the shifter clicks up and down, but no gear changes.

what kindof paint did you use on your fenders? Did you sand them a little then prime and paint?
Have you call a dealer on your tranny? Could be something broke on the inside?
nice looking bike tho.

thats the overflow outlet when you carb gets flooded and what not, the tranny problem seems like something is up with the shift shaft which that shaft goes from the left side of the engine and goes through the center of the engine and works with the shift drum which moves the shift forks and the forks basically changes gears, there might be some clutch components worn out also i would just pull both side covers off and start takin a look at stuff, get a manual or something and see if you can find out whats up, hopefully you wont have to split the cases.
