Hi, I'm looking to replace the stock tires on a 2001 Wolverine. I ride in New England where it's mostly rocky/woodland trails. I'm not sure what tires to get, what would fit, or how to read the numbers for tire size. Any advice?

Thanks,
-Matt

Howdy...well theres not many that are the stock size of the existing tires on your wolverine...to read the sizes...23x8.00x12...
23 is the height
8.00 is the width
12 is the rim size
most of us put 25 inch tall tires on...something like Sur Tracs or Bear Claws...hope that helps...

Matt,
I have a 97 wolverine, with 26x12x12 sur tracs all the way around,if you go that big you will lose some low end torque,, and you will have to make up for it with modifications..

Howdy Matt....you can't change the rim size(12)but you can go taller and wider...for a stock Wolverine don't go any taller then 25 inches...stick with the stock widths also or you will have to make more mods to your quad...if you go wider in the front it will be harder to steer and will grab any ruts in the trail and pull all over...look for tires that are 25x8.00x12 (front) and 25x10.00x12 (rear) hope that helps...

Hey there Mat,,,, listen to BB,,, Irun with a couple guys runnin' Wolverines,, one with the stock dunlaps(they are freakin' garbage, in two years he's got 17 plugs in his tires) The other guy is running Bearclaws,25-8-12 up front and 25-10-12 in back. In two years he's nver had a flat. You probably want to consider a K@N filter , jet kit and (if you can swing it) an aftermarket exhaust. With those you won't notice any power drain from the larger tires.Actually, you might notice a little more power.

Very wise guys from Canada eh?? hehe! Listen to what they say cuz I have that exact setup as you can read below and I'll tell ya that it makes a big, big difference with these tires. I bought the bike with all mods accept for the winter ones that I bought. I have lots of power with the mods but not sure how it runs without them so I'm no help there. Go with the 8" up front because when I first got it I found that it was a little grabby and wobbly up front. Not sure if it was because it was new and wasn't used to it but I decided to buy a bottle of slime and put some in my front left tire because the guy who had it before me did puncture the 4ply tire and I just put some in to be on the safe side. It seemed to fix the problem of unstable front end in high speeds. I thought that I might have to buy a stabalizer but the slime seemed to make a difference for some reason. Must have something to do with more weight in the tires or something??
I'm looking forward to this spring in April 13, Good Friday, theres a big 4 wheel drive run and theres going to be lots of trucks and atv's there. LOTS of mud and good times at this event! Pics of my machine and trips I go on are coming soon.

I had 25x9.50x12 all the way around and they worked great. I have friends that have 25x9.50x12 in the front and 25x12.50x12 in the rear...great traction here.

Titan makes the 489's in the the stock sizes and they're not mud tires like everyone else is suggesting. You could ask someone who ones a Arctic Cat or Polaris about 'em.

If I were you, I would put on the 25" Titan 589MT's or the AT's. I have a '00 Wolv. and am going to put those babies on in the late spring.

Looking forward to the mud!!!...Bring it On babe!!.
