I have a Yamaha Moto 4 that was given to me and I need to replace the pinion and bearings in the rear end. I have no clue what year or model it is to order the parts? It is yellow and has 223 cm on stamped on the motor so I am guessing it is 225 Moto 4? Am I correct in this assumption and is there a place on the frame that has the year and model stamped on it?
I know it is from the 80's and that is as far as I got but I do not want to order the wrong part and have to deal with that issue.
Also, are the bearings different from year to year on these or motor to motor? Or are they pretty universal and one size fits all?
One more question: I have the wheels and brake off and have no idea how to get the axles out to remove the differential - can anyone tell me what I need to do to get those out of there.
Thank you for any help - Bob Urban

Chris - thank you for helping me. Unfortunately I have a block on the parts website here t work(who knows why) anyway - I will look at it when I get home in an hour or so.
What I am replacing is the bearings in the diferential in the rear. It is a 2 wheel drive rig and the bearings wore out and have jamed up the pinion gears. Cannot get the rear axle to turn at all. I have the rear wheel off but need help in how to remove the axle so I can get into the gears.
Thanks again - Bob
I have pictures I can put up when I get home too

Ok, rear differential bearings. That is in this link: yamaha rear wheel partsmanual fiche yfm225s 1986 yfm225 quad
If youre sitting on the bike, the back right wheel needs to come off. The axle has a collar in the middle of it and looks like it only can be removed from the back right. That link has the part numbers listed in it, I would check ebay before ordering there (or anywhere).

Youre gonna have to split the rear axle gear case, start with the parts on the right side of that middle pic above and work your way in.
