I am getting ready for another oil change in my 2004 Yam Big Bear 400 4WD and am wondering about which brand/type oil to use. I am in Central Fla where it is in the mid-90s much of the year and the 400 engine gets scalding hot when woods riding. I have been using Honda or Yam 10W30.

What oil do you use in warm climates?

Branded motorcycle oil? Diesel truck engine oil such as Shell Rotella or Delo 400? Synthetic?

I would read your manual and go with the called for Yamalube. I would guess that every brand (Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha) is probably made by the same company. For something as important as engine oil, I would go with what is called for.

30 weight is a little light for hot weather. I personally use Rotella 15/40 in eveything I own.
What ever brand you use I suggest you step it up to a 40 weight if you ride in that hot of weather.

 

Get your hands on some AMS OIL 0-40 it's really good stuff...sometimes I slather it all over my girlfriend then I ... Uhhh I gotta go..
