I am looking for another quad and this is the list of things I am looking for....
I need the fastest stock 4x4 quad available.
It would be nice if it had racks on it, but not a must. So maybe a sport utility?
Automatic would be nice, but not a must.
I have a 01'Kodiak and it is a nice machine.
My brother is getting a Rubicon and I have heard that the kodiak is not as powerful at high end speed as the Rubicon. So I need to get another machine anyway for my wife, and I was looking for a machine that I could keep up with him, and not be trailing him eating mud and dirt.
I have look at the Scrambler and that has some gut's, but what else is out there, the wolverine????
Any input would be great.

I saw the ATV TV yesterday and they had the prarie 650 on there. The host seemed really impressed. Said it would out accelerate the 400ex. With selectable 4x4

Your fastest stock 4x4 quads are going to be the Scrambler 500 4x4 and the Wolverine. There was a shootout in 4 Wheel ATV Action between the 2 of them. It is a great article.

Obviously I prefer the Scrambler (duh) but the Wolverine is no slouch by any means.

Wolverine comes with racks. Scram does not. I put a gas can rack on the back of my bike and use a tank bag and can carry everything I need.

Wolverine (511lbs) is a good bit lighter than the Scram 500 (540-570lbs? not sure) so it does not matter as much about its smaller engine. (350 vs. 500)

There are other utility quads that are fast also like the ones listed above. Problem is, they are so dern heavy it can wear you out riding fast on the trails all day. The H.O. may be an exception to this with the I.R.S. but I dunno.

Take your time and get the bike that is right for you dude.

Regards,

MrMan

Faster than the Prairie 650, MrMan? Not that I care, really (hehehehehehe!).

The Host on ATV TV is really impressed with everything he sits on. I quit watching this show for a long, long time because of the lame reviews. I have watched the last couple of weeks and suffered through the 2 part Honda 250EX review (He LOVED it) & the Honda Recon review (He LOVED it). Their ride report was on Glamis last week. They didn't show anything but some 20 foot tall dunes and people falling off of their quads. Argh!!! Don't forget to watch 4x4 TV with the same host. He reviewed a Chevy Tracker (He LOVED it) this past week.

500HO is pretty fast, i like racks for brining extra gas, i hate to rely on someone else if i am running low, plus i can bring along some water and a tow rope and stuff, depending on how fast you need one, it might be worth it to wait for the prairie650 to come out,or maybe another company will beat that one

bukhunter,

If you can hold out until late April, the new Prairie 650 V-Twin will be out and it will ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, UNEQUIVOCALLY, NO DOUBT be the FASTEST sport-utility quad on the market (anyone care to take bets?) Guess you can tell I'm EXCITED about it!?! Someday it will be my next quad - soon, I hope.

Point conceded Diogenes. By all accounts that Prairie is going to rip and it will basically weigh the same as a Explorer 400.

I agree in a straight line drag there are larger 4x4 Utility bikes that are just as fast, if not faster than the Wolverine or Scrambler 500.

I was trying to convey the idea that; given 2 riders of equal skill, I believe they are going to be faster on the trails in a lighter 4x4. Not as fast as the 2x4 Sport bikes, (until we hit the mud hehehe)

Regards,

MrMan

that will be part of the fun, being able to keep up with a 400ex on the long logging roads, then in the steep trails and mud he has to work to even see my tail lights, cant wait, but i will have to pull him out i guess
