Default Parking light on Wolverine 450

I have a used 2008 model Wolverine 450 everything standard. When I bought it from the guy it was practically brand new. (Bought in 2010) I never noticed then, and probably was never a problem, that the parking light never came on. I always have to hold the rear break to start it. It's pretty agervating when it's cold and the engine likes to cut off sometimes. Anybody know what might be the problem, how to fiix it, and what to get?
Sorry for all the detailed crap.

Could be the linkage for the shifter needs adjustment, loosen it up and see if you can get the light to come on. That, or the sensor for the park position is bad, damaged or unplugged, or maybe the light for the park indicator is bad. I'm guessing its a position or sensor problem, because you have to press the brake to start it.
