Second what Merryman says, need a wiring diagram and a test light.

BUT I will add this. The CDI boxes, replacement boxes listed on places like Amazon and eBay. They often cause this problem. I have no idea why, but have read it over and over that this is the exact problem the cheap Chinese replacement CDIs create.

Now having said that, a cheap CDI can still work, but it needs to be model specific, not a generic that covers many different models.

I have a 2001 Kodiak. There was like one seller that had one for the 2000-2002 models only. It was the only one that worked correctly.
The majority of CDIs said they would work on all 350-450s from 1995-2002. That was not the case.
