Just yesterday me and a few of my friends were over at my other friends house(the one who trashed his 440) watching and helping him do some repairs. He had replaced the frond end cap, and the FMF 909s. As we went to remove the bent Lonestar rear axle it came out in (2) seperate pieces, yes you heard right, the axle broke in half inside the carrier. it was bent from the crash on the right side pretty bad, but how in the he11 did it break inside the carrier? Crazy thing is that I rode it down the street about 50 yards so we could see what all was bent and it didnt come out of the carrier, but after we removed the wheels and chain and went to slip it out only 1 half of it came out, the place that it broke at was almost a perfect, straight break. I doubt anyone has heard of this ever happening, but if so then give me your theory, because i have seen some seriously bad wrecks in my day, but this is new to me.

that's pretty weird!
from what I have learned this year at school, it shold break in the weakest spot...duh! you'd say. The weakest (assuming the axle ressembles mine) point is wether close to the hub, or closer to the carrier (where it sort of has a curve), but it shouldn't have broken inside. The only explanation is that it was already weakened (by a cut or similar natural ting) inside, and by bending/pulling it has broke.
Do you happen to have pics of the crazy thing? I'm curious...like all crazy people say about crazy stuff ...mmmh, very interesting.
