Default 2001 kodiak 400 ultrmatic transmission is in reverse and the shiter is in L?

Hello I have a 2001 kodiak ultramatic 4x4, I have the shiter in reverse and the quad does not want to go in reverse when pushed, it will go forward. When I have the shiter in low or high and it does not want to go forward, it will roll backwards? Seems like the transmission is opposite from shifter? It will not go work while running or not?

It will have a rod from the shift lever to one on the gearbox, my guess is this lever has come loose where it mounts onto gearbox.

The shifter is hooked up at both ends? My nephew borrowed my quad and apparently he had got it very wet, him and a friend were towing it, the kodiak was in neutral when being towed, then he tried to put it in reverse or park while moving? He was scared to tell me what had happened.

Default Fixed

I fixed it, I took the shifter cover off of the transmission, used a pair of pliers put the transmission into park rocked the quad to make sure it wouldn't move. Then I shifted into reverse, made sure quad only moved in reverse, did that for neutral and forward. Shifted back into park then reverse, put the cover back on, had the shifter in reverse to start with, put shifter back on everything worked great.
