Default LED lights - is there going to be enough amperage available?

I've got a 99 Timberwolf 250 4x4 and an 04 Bruin 350 4x2.

I'd like to throw a set of small LED lights on them, maybe like a 22-24" or just a pair of square pods, just something to throw a little more light out in front at night.

We don't do a hole lot of night riding, so they wouldn't get used a whole heck of a lot to be honest.

I'm no stranger to wiring things up with fuses, relays, and switches, been doing it for years on automotives. I've got 6 LED lights, an 8k winch, and a 2000watt stereo in my daily that's all wired up myself. BUT, I've also installed a higher output alternator to accommodate those.

I have no idea how much amperage overhead the stator outputs on these little bikes. Is there enough to safely install some small LED lights? Also considering a small winch for both, but at least those are only drawing power for short bursts, not long periods at a time light having a light on.

It likley put out around 200 watts, and the stock headlights are probably 40-50 watts each, so if you replace the stock lights, rather than adding on, you can easily get 2-3 times the light output without using any more power than stock.

My plan was to leave the stock lights alone and have them on either a separate switch or just trigger the relay for the LED's off the high beam circuit. At least on the Bruin. With the Timberwolf having square headlights, I might opt to just yank the stock lights out and stick some pods in the holes.

It should say somewhere in the specs for the LEDs how much power they use, either amps or watts, two 36w headlamp bulbs are pulling about 6 amps so, as Dacaur wrote, if you use the LEDs instead of the headlights you are pulling no more if the LEDs are rated less than the headlights, however the tail light won't be on if the headlamps are not. In practice, the battery will take up any lack of power from the alternator for a while. So, unless you do a lot of night journeys with stops and starts, you should be OK
