Most would say (and I would agree) that making a good paint job is all in the prep work. But think when it comes to painting ATV plastics, a LOT of consideration needs to be taken into the paint selection as well. The most meticulous and perfect prep work isn't going to do a bit of good if you spray on paint that's going to crack and flake off the first time the plastic fender is flexed. So you'll have a choose a paint that's designed for plastics and is able to flex a good bit.

My experience with painting plastics, I painted some plastic trim pieces on the rear of my Blazer. Sanded, primered, painted black, clear coated, the whole nine yards. But I didn't use paints designed for plastic (just used what I had laying around in the garage), and now a couple years later they look worse then they did before I painted them lol

Don't do it! I know there are excellent paints for the plastic, used on car exterior trim, but I'm certain cars don't use the soft to the touch plastic that is used on Quads. Paint comes off when you pressure wash bikes. If you must, use vinyl wrap, but don't expect that to look great for ever either.
