Default Wiring nightmare 2002? Kodiak

Hello! My son and I picked up a 2002 Kodiak today. We were told it's an 02, but I haven't found the VIN to verify that yet. It supposedly had no spark. A prior owner tried to troubleshoot this thing and pulled off all the harness covering exposing all wiring! We removed the plastics and this thing is a total mess. Upon inspection before putting any power to it, what appears to be the kill switch wires (black with white stripe) are melted near the handlebar switch. Could be the issue, but I was looking to see if anyone could possibly send me a wiring diagram of this thing? I'm going to troubleshoot the short that melted the wires and the no spark condition as soon as I have one

Are you sure you put up the right diagram, that shows DC ignition, fairly sure old Yams are AC and a lot more complex in the CDI wiring than that.

Thank you for posting that. I printed out a copy and tried matching it up. Unfortunately it looks like mine is different. I was told it's an 02 Kodiak by 2 people. Stupid me took their word for it. The riveted on tire pressure towing label on the rear plastic has what appears to be a part # on the bottom which reads "5FE-21696-01". I was doing anything I could to make the vin legible and I had to count backwards to find the 10th digit as the frame is dented at the first few. Looks like that digit is "Y" which makes it a 2000. Any idea which wiring diagram I'll need?

Did some searching and came upon this:
https://www.weeksmotorcycle.com/kodi...html#gsc.tab=0
It appears to be correct (the CDI Unit plugs seem to match). I can barely read it but I should be able to make it through the repair of the harness with it, unless someone knows of a more more legible copy?
