I want to sell my 440ex to get a raptor but I am scared to have my pride and joy blow a a 2000 to 3000 dollar mess up. I wanted to buy a used one but if they fix the problem I want a new one. Does anybody know what they are doing about the bugs?

Mine, apparently has a updated gear in it. This came into play after the explosion that sent the tranny to OZ. I read on here that yam still has not admitted a problem, But suggests that all of theese raptors are being abused. I ride with about 20 people with every possible atv known. The only people having tranny probs are the unlucky few that thought yam knew what they were doing. By the way, parts alone on mine would have retailed at over 4000.00. Its really sad to see used raptors going for 5000.00. 0n ebay and auto trader. I guess the word is out.

I've had my Raptor Since Sept. 00 with no tranny problem. I ride with Banshees/400exs/Polaris/Kawaski atvs and my bike has never failed me. Just keeping it real!!!!

I heard that the problem stems from reverse sharning second gear. If it is true, my advise is to GENTLY engage and disengage reverse.

get rid of reverse.. all hell no.. thats one of the best trail riding features you can have..

I was sick and tired of pushing the banshee whenever I needed to back up a couple feet for something..

Ok I know not everybodys raptor has failed them but it does exist. I have been reading about it in the forum for the past year. I have had no problems with my honda and havent heard of anyone else with major probs. But the raptor tranny problem is very real and I dont want to be a victim. Even the first guy that posted said his blew but he was lucky to have a warranty I want to buy a used one but not with that on my mine it is worth it to me to buy a new one with the tranny problem fixed.

I just looked in this forum for an answer as to why my buddy's second gear just went out. Can someone explain in a little more detail exactly what the problem is? I figured it was just a fluke until I saw this post.
