How do banshees behave on a mx track? (stock)

Most people like to talk about the Banshee when they don't really know alot about it.Its not THAT bad, although stock,MX is not its forte.A couple years back ATV4wheel Action did a test with Mark Ehrhardt and timed laps aboard his 250R and wanted to build a Shee that would beat those times, and they did with pretty minor mods. They did some light porting and Duncan pipes extended the Axle and Aarms with new shocks and he beat his best 250R time.Stock wise, the handling and suspension is not that bad, and who the hell knows if you would or wouldn't be able to "use the powerband" there are too many variables of track design to say that.Put on a set of good pipes (like LRD or Duncan) and if you know how to ride and work a machine you'll go fast.Good luck.

well for your info i had a 1995 yamaha banshee that i dearly loved. however it would take some major mods to bring it up to mx condition. a little while back dirt wheels had the top 3 gncc riders comparing a banshee, a 426yz honda, and a tricked out 250r. they all took turns racing all three around the track and all riders commented on how the power of the banshee was nice buttt... it was just too tiring after a few laps. you have to finesse it too much. to each their own though. those 250rs need more competition.

They weren't GNCC riders, they were MX riders and yes they said the Banshee was the fastest thing they have ever ridden, but was also hard to ride if they were tired or lazy.It doesn't take a big investment to make a Shee MX ready, no more than any other quad, pipes,a-arms,axle and shocks. The Banshee being a twin naturally will cost a little more, but your doing basically the same mods.To make a Banshee a good MXer, bring the power down the RPM range a little and put some shocks on.

There are 2 things you have to know.
First : all those stupid gus who "hear about" don't "know about". It's too easy to pick some "downs" of a machine and say it's not worth a crap...
I have ridden my shee on an mx track with mud tires...and the limit was me, certainly nt the machne.
Second: I don't kow how many times ths will have to be said,bu the rider makes a good or bad machine. If you know how to ride, then you'll be faster than morons on 250Rs.
At that MX track, there were 2 400EX (oh my god, the mx gods!!)...and none of them would even jump half of what I did on my "poorly handling, poorly suspended, nose heavy, no mid power" machine. One EX had a nice set of shocks (probably Elka). That doesn't mean I was the best, just shows that if you have some guts, you'll be fast on any machine.
PS...if ther are letters missing, add them by yourslef...my keyboard is goin' nuts...keeps forgetting letters here and there...
