I've always had good luck using Bel-Ray oil in all my bikes. Since the Warrior likes to run so hot I figured it was time to switch to Bel-Ray. Which 4-stroke oil should I use in it? They have petroleum, semi-synthetic and synthetic oil. I'm not sure what protection the quad needs. Anyone running Bel-Ray let me know what they think.

I use Mobil 1 15w-50 synthetic. If you go to the honda forum, you will see a more explained post than this. Basically, it works very good in air cooled engines because of the heat that is dealt with. Standard oil will break down at the temperature these machines run in the heat. Give it a try.

I have used the standard Yamalube 20w 40 in the hot weather and 10w 40 in the cooler weather. I too was afraid of the oil breaking down. Does oil change colors when it breaks down? I always check the oil before and after each ride and as soon as it starts to darken I change it. I never let the oil get anywhere near black. This usually works out to about 9 to 10 hours of riding

heres what I wrote awhile back :I make my own blend. I use 75% Amoco( could be any brand as long as it does not say energy conserving which means friction modifiers ) 10w-40 and then 25% Mobil 1 Synthetic 15w-50. Cheapest place I have found for mobil syn 15w-50 is Walmart. Put it in a 5 quart oil container skake it all up and presto, change-O, you have your own synthetic blend just like the stores sell only much cheaper. If you have high stress the 15w-50 at a 25% blend will pull you through. I change my oil between 20-25 hrs on utility machines. Raptor, I have been keeping it in there around 10 hrs. If you don't change your oil much I would put in the full synthetic. Another thing at least put in what oil the owners Manuel calls for during warranty peroid. For some reason they don't like synthetic oils because of clutch slippage. I have never had a problem running sythetic. I think they might not like it because of less wear, longer lasting motor. So a 75% to 25% ratio has been good for me and it keeps the cost down. Chet

The reason the manufacturer doesn't want synthetic oil during the break-in period is so the machine can wear the gears and everything else properly. Everything on a new machine has to seat in order to work properly. Once this has been done then they say it is ok to run synthetic oil to further prevent wear.

I use Yamalube 4R. Or 50w. It is kind of thick but works great.
