YZ 250 or YZF 426 Quad?

Now that Yamaha is once again showing interest in the sport side of atving, by putting quads into the GNCC. I was wondering if Yamaha where to come out with the 250 2-stroke and the 426 4-stroke, which one would you guys get and why?

Definately a Four Sroke! I understand that Two Strokes are great for places like sand dunes, etc. but four strokes are much more versitle. Fours may lack a little in the dunes but they much more manageable in the mud, woods, trail riding. Anyplace where low RPMs are required.
By the way, Yamaha is coming with a sport bike. I was at a local ATV/Dirt Bike shop the other day and I was talking to the owner. He told me that he has already seen part numbers for aftermarket parts like exhaust and other pieces. The bike should be out in late fall as a 2001 model.

I would be excited with either a YZ250 or YZ426 ('98 and '99 were 400cc) engine. Each one has their advantages. A 2-stroke engine is lighter, simpler and cheaper. Four-strokes have smooth, controllable power, and are less tiring to ride.
With power valves, modern MX engines have good low-end, midrange and top-end. Either engine would be good (better than any engine in quad today), but the 2-stroke will require you to be "on your toes." The 4-stroke isn't as punishing.
Personally, I'd like to see a the YZ426 engine tweaked for ATV use and put in a quad frame. I fallen in love with 4-strokes after getting a 400EX, but I have never ridden a high-performance 2-stroke so I can't give a good comparison.

I think it's pretty funny how so many people believe that a 2 stroke does this and a 4 stroke does that. Common misconceptions are that a 2 stroke always has an explosive power band, and a 4 stroke is more controllable and easier to ride. Hmmm. So where do trials bike motors come from? 2 strokes. They've got tons of low end, very controllable power - quite unlike what many people believe a 2 stroke is like.
Either engine type can be designed or modified to provide the desired power characteristics. 4 strokes can be wild - ever see one highly modified and running alcohol? 2 strokes can be mild - like the trials engines??
There are weight and a manufacturing cost advantages with the 2 stroke though, and typically you'll get more bang for your buck.
If Yamaha does this right, they'll make both and let the consumers decide which one is right. They've already done that with the mx bikes (you have the 2 or 4 stroke choice), so it would only make sense to to it with the atv's.
