I put the raptor on the trailer after a recent ride. Nothing punishing, I'm too old for that. Just some trail runs, minor jumps (less than 2 feet of air) etc. I'm by no means a great big guy (180 lbs). The raptor is about 3 months old with maybe 15-20 hours of riding on it.

It sat for about 2 weeks after that ride, on the trailer, in weather (if it matters) varying from 40 to 70 degrees.

I went out last weekend to fire it up, unhooked the tie downs and noticed a large puddle on the trailer. My first thought was that I forgot to turn off the gas, but a quick look said this was not the case. A quick inspection revealed the puddle was oil from the shock. It had absolutely NO compression left in it. You could see a couple drops coming from the seal around the rod. It seemed fine when I loaded it last, and nobody had been around it since... Any ideas?

I'm just hoping Yamaha will warranty it

You may have had the tie downs pulled down to tight? then with the weather and all...... I havent seen any others rear shock do that, but I can say mine fell apart a few weeks ago.

If it were compressed too far and held there for 2 weeks I could probably see that happening. See if the dealer will cover it. but dont tell them you had it outside and tied down or anything.

actually, I only had it tied down in the front. My trailer has a big stop on the front of it that pull the quad tight against, so I didn't tied the rear at all. I was only going about 5 miles with it at speeds under 40 mph, so I wasn't too concerned. I dod tie it for long highway trips, but this last ride was local.

I'm I correct in saying it's a 2001 machine? Just curious.

I didn't blow a seal on mine but the compression settings didn't do anything. Yamaha replaced it no questions asked and that was before I even purchased the extended warranty.

My rear shock leaked the 2nd week I had my Raptor. Same symtoms (puddle on the floor) but in the garage. The dealer replaced the shock at no cost. My serial is 48xx something.
