i e-mailed mickey dunlap and asked a few questions about a new filter set-up. he said they would modify my stock box to flow more air and put in a 2-1/2" velocity stack. has anyone had this done? and also which is best, pro design with pro flow or k&n. best place with best price?

www.rockymountianatv.com is usually pretty hard to beat for price, although I got mine from Magic Racing. www.magicracing .com A velocity stack is a hole cut into your airbox lid and a soffit (sp?) vent put into it like you would an eve of your house. You don't even need the soffit vent except to help keep stuff out better. There was a picture of Mickey's setup in the "Hot Setup" page of a Dirt Wheels magazine about a year ago or so. As far as the best filter, I run a K&N with an Outerwear over it, but you'll get peoplethat like both types. Do you have a jet kit yet for your Yosh? If not, get one soon, especially with the modded air box and new air filter.

thanks. i have 145-150 jetting. also, fst's 11.5:1 piston & cam. the jetting seems to be right on. just how much difference is there in taking off the lid or modifying the box(with proper rejetting)?

A velocity stack is a tulip shaped intake designed to increase airflow into your intake. If they are selling something else, its not a velocity stack.

Once you run without an airbox lid you'll never run it any other way!

so which is better, without the lid or velocity stack? where can i order a velocity stack and install it my self. what's up with the outerwears? it seems that would restrict the flow again. surely not as much as the lid, but some. outerwears keep extra crud out right? that's my main concern. thanks everyone.

I dont know of anyone who makes/sells ATV velocity stacks, You would probably have to fabricate one yourself, Which would be alot of work [math]. Outerwears are a good idea, exspecially with k&n style filters. They are designed to work with an outerwear cover. Bonus to them is that most will help keep out most water [from splashes, not swimming ]
