OK, Here is some information on how stupid a dealer can be.....
First of all, my raptor's tranny went while it was under warrenty, so, i bring the quad in for a warrenty repair at my local dealer(big mistake was i diden't buy the quad from them). so, my raptor had about a month before the warrenty expired, it sat at my dealer for three months, then i call them and ask if it's done, they say: we never got the "OK"! so, i say fine, take it apart and see if it is covered. My "dealer" told me yamaha would pay to have it taken apart. They take it apart, and call me and say it's not covered! they said i hit a rock with my shifter, and 2nd gear, the shift fork, and 4th gear went. So, i say ok, if i have them fix it, i am sure i can get yamaha to pay for it when i get the parts. So, i get the bill about 1 month later $1500!!!
I paid the bill and took it home, looking at the slip i saw they charged me 17 hrs of labor....$1100!!! Now, how many hours does it take to just PUT THE GEARS IN??? 2+ days? anyhow, i see there in my parts slip they put a new piston in it....they told me they dropped the old one, and charged me $80 for it!! anyhow....So i take my raptor out for a ride, 5 minuites into the ride the engine gives out a "pop" and guess what...no compression, i bring it back to the dealer...they take 2 weeks to fix it, i say finally!!! i am ready to sell this POS, I start it up for the first time, i see a puff of smoke, and say...oh! it's just because it isn't broken in!......So, i broke it in for like 10 hours. i leave it not running for 2 days, so then i go out and start her up....what do you know!!! A smoke cloud so big i coulden't even see the quad even though i was sitting on it....Gee, maby someone dosen't know how to install valve seals???...STUPID YAMAHA...STUPIDER DEALER....Yamaha won't cover my repairs because they say the dealer is there "eyes and ears" and they have to go by what the dealer says.

That was a really expensive lesson you learned about that dealer.
We're all really good about rating the performance of our bikes, but there should be a way of rating local dealers.
I think if I brought my bike somewhere and is sat in their shop for 3 weeks (nevermind 3 months!) I would bring it somewhere else. A good dealer will try everything they can to get you out on the bike asap. If it's sitting in their shop for a long time that shows poor service and poor business sense, and I would get it out of there and bring it somewhere else. A good dealer can't afford to have the floor space taken up for that long, plus they've got to know that you can't ride it while it's in their shop.
Finally, if you drove out of town to save a few bucks, you should drive out of town to get the warrenty work done. If you've moved after buying the bike that's different, and you should bring it up in polite conversation with the dealer, but if you shopped elsewhere to save a couple of bucks you should know that you're not going to get priority service.
Still no excuse for the poor service you've got from that dealer though. Warn your friends!

Hey man if i was you i would be contacting the manager/owner and threatening him with a law suite. That is uncalled for. I have my own shop and i know if i would ever pull somthing like that on a customer i would be sitting in court. That is rediculous. If i was you i would be sticking your $6500 Raptor up some guys back side! Good luck sorting this mess out.

it cost $25.00 to file a law suit...
they owe you for a piston if they dropped it thats there fault.
you also paid them to fix it.... they usually can BS there way out of it like car shops... EX- they tell you the cam is gone you say fix it... then 2 days later when you call they tell you the valves where shot too...and so on and so on..so they always blame something else.. i caught on to there little tricks along the years
my local dealer tried a fast one on me... i brought my swing arm in for the bearings to be pressed in ((they where pivots works set i bought from K&K..they crushed one and tell me its because i bought those crappy pivot works bearings ?? i heard good things about them... so i start walking out and look at what they did..they put one in backwards and crushed it and then blame me for buying junk??? i was pissed the even tried to tell me the swingarm was gone buy a new one... i made them press in a new bearing and never had a problem with the swingarm ((go figure))..
i try to do all the work myself-- dont trust one local dealer and for good reasons..it sucks because sometime you need a press or machine work and there all idiots.

now evhwg, not all auto shops are run like that. the few bad apples give the others a bad name.
always research your dealer before you have work done there. do and look around the shop and talk to a few techs, if the shop is clean, the staff friendly and seem to know what they are talking about there usually is a customer standing around. ask them if they have used the dealer before. its sometimes hard to properly diagnose some problems, thats why you have to find a tech. not just a parts changer. also you could post a message giving your area and see who recomends a good shop.

hey evhwg, you local shop was not Libby's or Willows was it? I uusually do everything myself, but like you said with presses or machines i would not be able to do myself, do you know of any reputable places to go, just in case that day comes to fix my quad?

I don't know how long they took to rebuild the motor, but I put Fortin gears in my quad, and installed my CT racing H.O. package in less than 8 hours with no manual, including taking it out of the chassis. Oh, and it runs great too, lol. I think the raptor motor was one of the easiest I've ever worked on. Most everything has an o-ring, or uses just a sealer in stead of a gasket. No problem. Hell with a lawsuit, just punch him in the face, Anybody else has a problem, I'll fix it for 400$ plus parts. For that much, you could have had TWO sets of Fortin gears and never have to worry again. I think it sounds like they installed the oil seal ring wrong, that was the trickiest part I think.
