hey RoostKing...I love the Banshee..and I love the 250R, but you need to step down off of your Banshee soap box.

properly ported and modified, a 250R with an OEM cylinder will beat 75% of the Banshee's at the hill/drag strip. No, a gas running R won't beat that drag ported alky burning side piped banshee, but you are not giving it enough credit (that or you haven't seen a real R race before)

To the person who says the R doesn't handle the horsepower as well as a Banshee, I think you are mistaken. The 250R tranny is probably one of the beefiest quad transmissions ever built. You are right tho in saying the Banshee is not bad either, it handles added horsepower very well.

just my 2 cents. No flames please.

Dill, you said the Key word here, and thats not what this was about. PORTED! This all started when someone said a PIPED 250r would KILL a Piped Banshee. I have no doubts that a ported 250 R can beat a piped banshee, sometimes. At any rate, until someone with a stock, non-ported 250R, beats either me, or I witness a it, Im staying on my soap-box. Any takers for Glamis this weekend?

yea, I said the nasty P word. PORT! hehe. to each his own, both bikes are good rides

I have a stock ported 86 that I just recently bought (still has the OEM topend from 1986 lol and ugly gold swingarm and a arms), but unfortunately Glamis is much too far of a drive for me

Im going to be in glamis easter weekend. And I'll probably have my banshee by then. I have no doubt that there will be tons of 250's there, and I will race as many as I can. Ill keep track of wins and losses also.
I know that the shee im getting is more than piped, but so are most 15 year old Hondas. I might have some videos also.

Yea Roost I guess you do have another gear and given enough hill you will beat most R's. Your world may travel in a straight line up a bumpy hill but mine travels around a track and there the r's rule. One thing though drag racing isn't as easy as it looks a person really has to know how to shift to be a good drag racer. I have found that mostly given all types of quads its the rider that makes the difference in winning in any situation.
I do have a Banshee and love it.

I never said the banshee was better at the track. The argument I am defending is narrowly defined. Someone said that a 250 R with bold on parts, no porting, stock bore will beat a similar banshee drag-racing. Then a few more people chimed in. This is where my argument starts. I have not raced ONE 250r, either Trike or Fortrax, that has bolt on parts similar to mine and been beat. That is my argument. People are actually saying a bone-stock 250R trike will beat a piped banshee. Pure Rubash. It is pointless to sit behind a screen and talk smack. I am going to go to every ATV forum I visit and try to find someone with a piped 250r to race this weekend at Glamis. If I get beat, i will let you guys know, if i dont, well youll know that too.

Dale Goldston, actually i would much rather dune all day, but stopping and doing a little dragracing is fun too. I gave up the track when i hammered my thumb...

I can't help but jump in the mix here.

Somebody said Roostking should step off the Banshee soapbox. PLEASE!!!! If I didn't know better I would think that the 250R was God's gift to ATVing after some of the "stories" I've read about the 250R on these forums.

"The 250R is perfect in every way; the handling is just sooo precise that it's amazing that any other quad can actually make 1 lap around a MX track without exploding in a ball of flames."

"The 250CCs that it has are actually the SPECIAL HONDA CCs that pack more HP than regular CCs made by any other manufacturer. It's true, a stock 250R will beat the most wildly modified Banshee or LT500."

"Don't even talk about reliability. It's a known fact that no 250R has ever broken; nope not once even from the worst crashes or anything. That's how reliable Hondas are."

"The torque is incredible too. From idle to redline all 250Rs produce max torque across the whole range. It's true, somebody that sold me my 250R said so!"

Get my point people?

Sure the 250R was a nice machine for the 4 years that Honda made it before caving in and production ended. It was never the fastest machine but it's pretty quick, and light and handles well but that's about it. At least Yamaha had the guts to continue to make the Banshee. Look at the Raptor and DS-650 and Canondales and ask yourselves what has Honda done for you lately. Oh, that's right the 400ex; God's second gift to ATVing. PLEASE!!!

Alright, enough with the p!ssing contest, how can you compare modded machines to modded machines? "well this guy had a banshee with a milled head, piped, etc.. and it was going against a R with pipes and porting" YOU CANT COMPARE THEM!! Any M..O..D..I..F..I..C..A..T..I..O..N makes it MODDED! Gawd... Compare STOCK TO STOCK and then we'll see what happens, post the results. Just like in racing (cars) you have the stock class and the modified, not the stock/modified, the guys with the v12's arent racing the guys with the 6's (h#ll even in dragracing the H.P. is close on both cars draging). I dunno, its stupid.. As far as smoking banshee's with R's or smoking R's with a banshee, you cant be smoking them by very much if they are both stock, both are very fast machines. So my vote is go out and test stock vs. stock, until then its all piddlyfarts umm like "I saw a guy "(acutally like 15yr old)" on an R "(that was running like s#it, looked like it too)" we raced "(kid diddnt know how to shift)" and I toasted him by 50yds "(obviously)" and it was an equal/legit race"(yeah..)"

Hey roostking, I said that my 250r would beat banshee's and you said no it wouldn't. Know your saying yeah they will if they are ported. My bike is ported, polshied, 40.5 mm carb v-force reeds reed spacer milled head, K&N, .40 wesico piston, running on vp-112 race fuel. Before my bike was ported my 250r would hang with piped banshee's but NOT beat them, i could beat stock ones. Know that it is ported it will take piped banshee's. I have yet to see a unported with all the bolt on's R take a piped banshee. I'm not saying that there is not one i just have not seen one. Porting makes all the difference in a motor. As for relibiltly my friends banshee blew up before my 86 STOCK piston did and i rode alot more than he did. I thing that 250r's are one of th most reliable 2 strokes out there.
