Banshee vs. 250R
#51
My 250r that I use to own was really nice, I mean it had almost every mod you could put on it on a stock 250r cylinder. Mild porting, LRD chrome pipe, rad valve, .20 over, polished exhaust, works, chromed everything. gusted, powedercoated frame. She was a beauty and she would haul butt, But to tell you the truth, I stepped into my first banshee the one below, and there is no turning back. There is no way that my 250r even when I had its big bore 295cc cylinder installed was even going to come close to my banshee. By the way... I payed the same for both! You just simply get a whole lot more for the dollar!

LOL @ Mintychip and Roostking. Both of you guys damn near made me spit coffee on my keyboard this morning. Like Roost said, There are those who talk about duning and those who dune, I'm leaving a little later today to do the later of the two.
Peace out,
Michael

This post is pretty silly. Bottom line is if you hang out at the hill, sooner or later, you get beat. I really don't like running the hills as much as I like actual riding and duning. I spent more on suspension than on motor, so I kind of laugh when everybody lines up at the base of the hill, so they don't have so many whoops to deal with. But hey, do what you like.
I can't make it to Imperial this weekend, so I am heading to Hot Wells Dunes on Sat. It is good riding, but if you are a hill shooter, you will be disappointed. Anyone want to meet? I can giv directions.

Ok, I've been reading and chuckling a little about this whole thread. Here's what I get out of it:
There are SOME (not all, I know) 250R owners who think those machines are untouchable in every way. Well, wake up folks, the 250R is a nice machine but it's no Banshee or Quadzilla killer. I'm sure you can make a 250R very fast but let's be real, do the same thing to Banshee and the Banshee will walk away from the Honda, period. Why can't some people just admit that the 250R isn't really the best at EVERYTHING.
I'm done.

I agree. The 250R is great but it cant be the best at everything. Some people refuse to believe that the 250cc motor cant keep up with the bigger bores without some help. At the hills, I beat 250's with pipes and filters all the time (yes, on my blaster), but I can only beat stock banshees that have paddles.

This is from the FTZ racing website:
“Somebody said there is no way you make 75 Horsepower out of a 250 - My 500 only makes 62 hp!”;
Believe it! It is a real deal...(Remember, 9 or 10 HP difference between our alky carb and a gas carb.)RPM. Keep in mind that what determines how much power is made is a matter of how much air a motor can pump through it, (It’s the air & fuel that makes the power, not the parts involved.) Think about it this way...Our 250’s rev to over 11,000 rpm. That is 3000 RPM more than most 500’s and 1500 more RPM’s than most big Banshee’s. That’s why the 250 power output can actually be higher than the bigger motors plus having a wider powerband and lighter weight.
Enough said. Even without alky that means 65-66 horsepower. This is on a stock, ported cylinder. Team Alba's 370 Long Rod banshee (ported) only puts out 62.6 horsepower according to dirtwheels and that's with 35mm carbs. Toomey racing says that the banshee cylinder's reed housing can't flow more than 28-29mm carbs and that anything more loses bottom end, which banshee's are lacking.
You fellas might think I'm crazy, but I've researched this thoroughly when I owned my banshee. The 250r isn't the be-all, end-all quad, but it does everything really well, better than most, and has a great engine for building.
Everyone thinks a 250r is great on the track, but once you get out in the open, a banshee is dominant. The baja 1000 this year was won by what? A 250r. When Honda came out with the 300ex, they raced the 1000 and took second, 12 minutes behind the mighty banshee. This is a bike with 15 horsepower and 7 inches of travel, if you're lucky. Truth hurts, I know. Don't let brand loyalty drag down with a company that cares very little about it's sport quads, but leads the world in street and dirt bike technology.

Your taking this too far. I see your trying to prove a point, but why prove it to someone on the internet that you don't even know? Take it out on the trail, and if you think your Honda or Yamaha is the shiit, then prove it to the other rider! Seems like your trying to make the world agree on something no one will ever agree on! I would much rather see, which Banshee is faster with what work done to it, and then I could read this all day, and take advice on what works and what doesn't for my own bansh. And why does it always come down to what quad is faster? There is only a couple seconds of time laspe between them, why does it really matter, THEY BOTH ARE FAST! Think of it that way! BOth machines are the ticket to speed, along with some others.

What a load of CRAP! There are people that don't even have a quad rendering their opinion as fact, here. Or Fools with a Blaster beating piped Banshee's. I sold my Banshee after I put an ESR 310 on my R. It is fast and capable of mid 50's for power, as if it means anything. I beat my fair share, and get beat by others. I will line it up against anything, but will never claim that it is the fastest. But please, if you are running a blaster, just shut up.

Ok mintychip do you really think that if you own a 75hp 250R your gonna be king of the drag strip??? I sure hope you dont because you would be very very disappointed, of course you would win your fare share of races but it aint near close enough to play with the big boys.
I dont know about the Alba 370lr but i do know that Ohton Racing's 370lr on alky dynoes at 94hp i also know that MP Racing's 356cc alky Banshee dynoes at 87hp (you can see the dynorun on thier web site) and that Dan Hull's 350cc alky Banshee dynoes at 88hp just to name a few, there are others.
You are living in a fantasy world if you think an all out modded 250R will take an all out modded Banshee in a drag race, i will give it to you though the 250r can be made very fast but it is not the king of speed sorry to burst your bubble...
