My Kodiak makes that sound also although I try to slow down to shift in and out of 4WD to ease the pressure on the differential. Godd luck. Do you know of a way to check for recalls on Kodiak's?

Just give your dealership a call, they will know of any. As of last week there are none on the 2001 Kodiaks.

okay, I have to update my post.

I meant to say that I never noticed the Kodiak making any noise when moving between 2WD and 4WD and back again. Yep, I hear the noise you must be talking about every once in a while.

I guess I put it in and out since it is called "On-Command" 4WD. I never change under throttle (pretty much impossible since you have to let off the throttle to hit the button). To be honest though, I rarely use 4 wheel drive unless I am stuck. I enjoy the challenge of 2WD when I have to ride the Kodiak.

Although it probably helps to be stopped, I don't think it is a cure all. I still hear the disengagement happen some times even if I do stop first.

Hopefully it doesn't break but if it does it does. I have enough trouble keeping up with the sport riders when I have to ride this quad let alone stopping to go back to 2WD. I would like to think I have enough self-control to stop but I know I don't.

Wish me luck!

I said earlier in a post that there was a service bulletin on the kodiak, it isnt a service bul, it is called a tech update ,it is in the atv-motorcycle hand out our dealership recieved from yamaha, These are just tech tips yamaha sends out to dealers on things like what the kodiak is doing, and then inturn the dealer can inform custermer if he or she comes in with a question. I recently had some trouble with my choke. It wasn't releasing fully and when I whent to the dealer to ask service what was going on he told me that they get this problem quite a bit and said it was the plunger at the end os the choke cable inside of the Carb. I was justt curios if its such a common problem if were a recall?
