Need Suggestions For New Tires For Y2Kodiak
#1
Hey Guys, This is my first post,I need help on choosing new tires. I live in Central PA and we have lots of rocks and hard packed trails, but we also get in to some mud ,and pipeline climbing, what I'm trying to say is we ride in and thru just about all terrains. I have 25-8-12 fronts and 25-10-12 rears stock Dunlops now, what would you guys think about stepping up to 26" or would you stay with the 25"? How about 26-12-12 on the back? Does anybody have any experience with the Kenda Bear Claw's, good or bad? Thanks for any and all responses.

I like that!
Hi,
Yes I have the bear claws on my Y2K-Kodiak. I put them on the stock rims. I got the Stock sizes front and rear. 25x8x12 front, 25x10x12 rear. I have a WARN 2500 winch and the right front just does clear the motor end of the winch when making a full lock left turn. They Hook up Good. They are a little taller than the OEM Dunlop's. I am enjoying them. I ran them at 3.8 psi and they are still a little stiffer than the dunlops. I will be trying 3.2 psi next.
Stay with the stock size and save your horse power and gas. I know someone on this forum that reported that the Bear Claws in 26" hit the A-arm in tight turns.
You will love the machine with them on it.

I have a new Kodiak with 26" bear claws. 26 9X12 on the front and 26 12X12 on the back.. BUT, If I were you I'd stay with 8X12's on the front cause the 9X12's will rub the warn winch(if you have one) and the left A-arm when steering fully to the left. There is still tooo much snow here for me to comment on how they work in the mud but in the snow I can tell you they don't even compare to those wimpy dunlop's. There just an excellent tire. BIGGER IS BETTER

hehe.. Nice timing rock But anyway... I really don't think the 26" will hurt your HP or milage on a 400 liquid. We've got lots of juice to spin 26's. All it will do is give you just a little more clearance and maybe hair higher top speed being a bigger diameter tire. Plenty of power baby!!

I have goodyear muddrunners on my y2kodiak and I love them. 26x9x12 front 26x12x12 rear.I also have a warn winch but have never had problems with the tires rubbing it. These tires work well with the kodiak. they are a little firmer on the hard pack but when its time to hit the mud you will kick everyones butt

I have 26x9x12 frt and26x12x12 rear MUD SHARKS and all I can say is WOW! They kick butt. I had bear claws on my last 4x4 and they also worked very well. But given the choice I think I would go with the mud sharks. They seem to be a bit more agressive and resist loading up a little better.

i would go with super swamper vampires 26-12-10
and put them on your stock rims the kodiak has plenty of power for these big baybies there not only good in mud but they are also great on hard packed dirt and rocks these things will take you any where and last a long time they last twice as long as stock tires no need for new rims i highly suggest you get these tires there the best i know from experiance please check out my form expedtion 425 vs big bear 400 plaes i need info (trust me on these tires)
