Raptor carb Question Gas leaking out of over flow on right side!
#12
hey raptrman,
Just wanted to let you know. I took apart my carb and didn't find a thing until I took out the float valve. Then what did I find, but one small grain of sand. Same spot as your plastic. Cleaned everything up and nothing is leaking now. Amazing, same carb and the same problem spot. Thanks for the heads up info before I started, it gave me an idea as to where to look. thanks

I don't know guys, I had the exact same trouble, the right carb, sounds too common! The problem seemed to have occurred after I installed my Yosh pipe & I rejetted, I may have cracked the float? Anyway, the needle valve had lost its springyness-compared to the left one that is, so I replaced both the float & needle valve assembly. That solved the problem! I had checked for foreign debris & checked the float height many times before but that was never the problem.

I picked up one at my dealer (the day I bought my Raptor) that was about 2 inches long & 3/4 inch across at the large end & 3/8 inch at the small end (same as a dirt bike). Yes it's a tight fit but there needs to be a filter there!!

I use one as well. Mine is about 1 inch long and about as big around as a quater and about 1/4 of an inch thick. It is also clear so you can see if it gets dirty.
You can look at it many ways as to why Yamaha didn't put one on it. If you have to bring it in to get trash out of the carb they make money. Another reason is probably that it would cost them more to produce a filter than you could just buy one for.
They are a good idea esecially if you ever get cheap gas from an old store or go into your carb for any reason, it can be hard to keep it clean in there when you put it back together.

Yes I spliced the rubber hose to install it.
Actually I think there may be a filter in the tank but if it's like the one in my 250R it is a corse filter & I wanted a better filter than that. It's just cheap Insurance & like I said I'm picky.
