air filters: foam VS. K&N !! opinions wanted
#1
so I need an airbox kit for my banshee.. I have a choice of the uni style foam filters, which I tend to dislike. cleaning them is a PITA and they dont seem as durable as a K&N.. I have had K&Ns on my trucks and they are a breeze to clean, and seem to trap dirt well...
which one do you choose for performance, durability, & effectiveness?
the service manager at the yamaha shop told me the k&n's might give a little more performance but even with the outterwear, the uni foam will trap dirt better..
the bike in question is a 03 banshee.. will be ridden in dirt and sand

The only choice for me is foam. My dirtbikes have all come with it, and every quad I have owned has had an upgraded foam filter. I trust them to trap the dirt better than the paper/cotton type. My YZ's and the CR's I have seen have all used foam filters. Those high compression, low tolerance motors really depend on clean air.
Since I already have to clean the foam filters on the bikes, it makes sense to clean the filters on the quads too.
