Blaster Caster? Help needed???
#1
I first posted this over in the mods and performance section, but someone suggest i try it over here.
Ok - to start off i admit it...i am sorta new to quads... off road bikes, enduro racing etc..i got covered...quads I dont...so if my questions seem basic..go easy on me!
I just bought a used 99 Yamaha Blaster for my son earlier today. It seemed to be in decent shape, needed new handle bars as they were bent up a bit - other than that ok. seemed to run great and handled fine.( i enjoyed riding it actually - but dont tell my two wheel buddies ok?) Except - after my kid rode it a bit I pulled it into the garage for a go over and I noticed that the right front tire stood about verticle, or maybe slightly leaning out at the top - but the left leaned in. I measure the distance from the edge of the rim to a set point on the A arm on each side - left side was nearly 1/2" closer! I then measure from the cast piece the A arms connect to to the back of the brake drum - these measurements differed as well..
Is this a simply matter of adjusting caster (camber...heck if i know) or does this mean something got bent up? It does not look like caster is adjustable. A arms all appear straight - it seems the only option might be the spindle axle on the left side is bent..well if that was the case as the tire rotated the gap would change though, wouldnt it? To me it seems it is the cast piece that must be bent somehow.
any comments would be appreciated
BTW - i gotta admit as a die hard two wheel fanatic - i really enjoy riding my kids Blaster! - comes up on the pipe pretty well for a 200 i am used to a 300 KTM two stroke. The Blaster has an FMF w/ Power Core II) and seems to handle pretty well. It is way more nimble than my wife's Trailblazer and much more fun stirin the gear box!.

OOH MAN, the quad bug bit ya! hehe
fun. eh?
as for your front end they should be vertical or point out slightly at the bottom unloaded. anything diff, there's a prob somehwere, and the best way to find it is with yer tape measure.
flat floor , just measure side to side and you'll find it. not likely to be anything major...
you're safe here... most of us older chaps are old dirtbikers and desert rats like you. no shame... try and pass a quad dude!
There are folks here with more knowledge about this than i, just telling ya where i would start...have fun! they are a ball to ride! have never heard anything different!
oh yeah the bars: buy some raptor bars, 28.00 ALBA, and put them on.
Much Nicer! more comfy, seaier on the arms.
